Heathrow Airport has become the first airport to get in on the Christmas advert game and predictably, it’s a tearjerker.
The west London airport’s first Christmas ad is titled: ‘Coming home – the greatest gift of all’. This is a cute 70-second spot that’s starting to trend on Facebook with more than 4 million views and growing.
Traveling is probably the least pleasant thing about the holidays and the ad stars with two ageing teddy bears who are making their way home for the festive period.
The poignant film follows Mr and Mrs Bair as they land at Heathrow and are faced crowded busy airport and they are having hard time to meet their waiting relatives.
The Christmas ad was created by Havas London and directed by Dom&Nic through Outsider Productions, with animation by The Mill. Curved Arrow handled the music, choosing the Chas & Dave song “I’m Going Back” for the soundtrack. The ad was filmed over three days while the airport was fully operational.
“Christmas is my favorite time of year at Heathrow. The airport is full with families and friends reuniting for this special time of year,” says Heathrow’s commercial director Jonathan Coen.
“We love the ad and we hope the bears’ journey through the airport captures that excitement you feel when walking through Heathrow arrivals into the arms of your loved ones at Christmas.”
This is part of brand campaign for marking Heathrow’s 70th anniversary. Its first-ever TV spot, also by Havas, launched earlier this year.
So far we haven’t seen many airports to spend their marketing budgets on this of advertisements.
But I think all of us will agree that this is perfect investment in order to create better connection with their customers and to increase their brand awareness.
